Huligan Pretzel Crush Honey Mustard Sauce

This little 65g packet of broken up pretzels is very tasty. Very crunchy. A rather harder crunch than you get with most crispy snacks, but none the worse for that. 

And the pieces are exactly as shown on the packet. It looks as though the factory makes actual pretzels and then hits them with a hammer to make the bits.

The flavour says honey mustard sauce. I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy this taste but in fact I really liked it. So I ate this entire packet very quickly. And wished for more.

Taylors Brie, Bubbly & Orange flavour potato crisps

I wasn’t sure I wanted to carry on writing about crispy snacks because the Chef, always an enthusiastic taste tester, is no longer with us.

But this packet of crisps was a Christmas present so I thought I ought to post about it anyway.

To be honest, I don’t remember ever having heard of Taylors (no apostrophe) who seem to be based in Perthshire and Dublin, but this packet of their crisps was bought in Colchester. Interesting. Anyway, pretty much the whole family has tried these “thick cut” crisps: Ski Instructor, Farmer’s Daughter, Family Vegetarian, Graffiti Artist, even Cliffs of Moher … and we all thought they are a bit too weird.

Now you all know I don’t like being mean about crispy snacks. But honestly, this is not a good crisp. Sorry, but it’s not. For a start it isn’t thick cut. And then it doesn’t taste of Brie, it doesn’t taste of Bubbly (presumably Champagne was not involved in the manufacturing process), and it doesn’t really even taste of orange. Anyway, who wants a potato crisp that tastes of oranges?

Really sorry Taylor family: none of us enjoyed this crisp. The flavour was just wrong.

Cheez-It Snap’d Cheese Sour Cream & Onion

So, these days we get Cheez-It Snap’d and Cheez-It Puff’d and all sorts of Cheez-Its. With stray punctuation thrown in just for fun. And this is a packet of the strangely parallelogram shaped biscuity snack that is a Cheez-It Snap’d.

This is a very fine snack, as in very fragile and thin. Cheesy, thin & crispy says the packet. And easily broken, and the bottom of the packet is sadly full of too many broken bits. And I do mean broken bits. More like crumbs. Which is a shame.

I like the flavour though I think it’s a bit odd mixing cheese flavour with sour cream and onion. I found it tasty. I really like sour cream and onion, possibly because it’s not a common flavour here in the UK so I don’t get the opportunity to try it very often. The Chef complained the taste is not cheesy enough. So we will have to agree to differ.

Migros Jumpy’s Paprika

Here’s another kangaroo-shaped crispy snack which has probably been around for some time. For all intents and purposes this packet of Jumpy’s is identical to the packet of Chios Jumpys I reviewed back in 2013. Except of course that it purports to be something else. 2013! So long ago! So many crispy snacks. I would never have imagined so many would be kangaroo-shaped.

It looks very much as though this is an own brand product from Swiss supermarket Migros, manufactured by the original company, Chios. Or possibly Intersnack Switzerland.

The Chef assures me that these imposter kangaroos taste exactly the same as Chio kangaroos. I am still not particularly keen on Jumpy’s, but the Chef remains a huge fan.

While we are discussing crispy crunchy kangaroos, here’s a different flavour from Migros that I had quite forgotten about. Not sure that I was mad about the sour cream flavour any more than the paprika, sunny or otherwise. 

Rubio Pijo Patatas Fritas en Sartén Sabor Limon y Pimienta

We went to the rather wonderful Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern and after admiring some art (Paul Klee obviously, and some Bridget Riley), we sat down for a snackish style of lunch. And picked up these lovely crisps. 

What a lovely crisp! The lemon and pepper work perfectly together and the Chef and I snacked down the whole packet all too quickly. 

Quite a fine cut, a good bite and a great flavour. What more could you want? Well, perhaps it would be nice to find a shop where we could buy these Spanish crisps again.

Zentrum Paul Klee

7 Days Mini Bake Rolls Garlic

 Back in 2015 the Reluctant Taste Testers and I tried 7 Days Bake Rolls garlic flavour. And they are pretty fabulous. And tasty.

But here we have a mini version. The mini bake rolls are far smaller than the usual size which is fine, but what is not fine is that the taste seems a lot less. Maybe it was just this packet, but they weren’t very flavourful. So I would buy the regular size. 

The Chef was disappointed. He hadn’t noticed he’d bought a mini size.

Ital Food Bruschette Maretti Mixed Vegetables

Well, it's not entirely clear to me exactly what vegetables we're talking about here. The packet shows a green pepper, a tomato, red onion and garlic; the ingredients list says these bruschetta are flavoured with a devour vegetable mix. Which could mean anything really.

However, all the other Bruschetta Maretti flavours the reluctant taste testers and I have tried were extremely nice, so let's give this a go. What do the taste testers think?

Beautiful crunch, very savoury taste. Not sure it's a vegetable taste particularly but it certainly is a tasty taste. I think this crispy snack gets a thumbs up.

7Days Bake Rolls Bacon

Hurrah! At last our local early morning/late night/all day Turkish shop has opened its big new store. Moving about 3 doors to the left this really good food shop now has at least twice as much room and has sprouted lots of exciting new stock. Including, you will perhaps not be surprised to leant, quite a lot of interesting crispy snacks. So I bought 3 packets. Don't want to get over excited.

We've tried 3 different flavours of 7Days Bake Rolls before (Garlic, Pizza, and Tomato, Olive & Oregano) and liked them a lot. Standing in the shop I couldn't quite remember which ones had seen the reluctant taste tester treatment but I was fairly sure we hadn't essayed the bacon flavour before. Luckily I was right.

And what a great crispy snack this is. Modelled I suppose on slices of bagel this is a very crunchy crispy snack with the flavour mysteriously on one side only. Sadly you do see a lot of breakages but that does not affect the taste.

Lovely, was what we thought. A very nice bacony taste. We enjoyed these a lot and decided we didn't mind at all about the broken bits. Such a good taste, who cares about the shape?

This product seems to be available in the UK, Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Slovenia. A slightly odd selection of countries but again who cares? You can buy them in our local shop.
