Zweifel Snacketti Onion Rings

Here's another crispy snack from the Snacketti brand of Swiss crisp giant Zweifel. Onion rings. Which is apparently Swiss for, er, onion rings. 

So what do we have here? Yes, onion rings. Which do taste very oniony. A very good taste.

This crispy snack is made of potato starch and wheat flour and puffed up into great big bubbly rings with a lovely light crunch. 

The reluctant taste testers really loved this crispy snack and we ate at least three quarters of this great big 75g bag with no difficulty at all. The onion rings are mostly air with a great big hole in the middle so you get quite a lot for your 75g. The Chef likes them too so we have an all round vote of approval.

This is a plain and simple flavour and plainly we liked it a lot. Very moreish. Not much more to say.

Zweifel Snacketti Bacon Strips

How fascinating it is that bacon seems to be English, and French and Swiss (all sorts of Swiss), and even Italian for bacon. Why don't they have others words for it?

And these bacon flavour crispy snacks from Swiss crisp giant Zweifel are even pretend bacon shape. The pretend meaty stripe is a bit pale (and completely the wrong colour in real life) but basically what we have here is extruded potato starch pretending to be smoky bacon. With painted on stripes.

Not my most favourite ever crispy snack but I didn't expect it to be. Somehow I usually don't like bacon flavour that much but it is better than ham flavour (which can be really horrible and I'm not sure why). But not so bad either.

The crunch is good and you can get the bubbles to burst on your tongue (if that makes sense). The taste is sweet and smoky.

I wasn't mad keen - you probably worked that out for yourself - and neither was the Chef, but some of the reluctant taste testers liked these a lot. I think they ate 2 bowlsful.

So, a success for some. But not really to my taste. Or the Chef's.

Zweifel Snacketti Paprika Shells

Snack mit Kartoffeln und Paprikapulver. That sounds rather fancier than Snack with potatoes and paprika powder, doesn't it?

I think I would rather describe these as paprika flavour shell-shaped potato snacks. Which means the same thing but somehow sounds better.

Strong paprika aroma, very strong paprika taste (quite hot), lots of paprika flavour dust and a massive crispy crunch that could probably win awards if there are any for sheer crunchiness. An all round crunchy paprika-fest.

Very shell-shaped with great ridges and a wonderful scoop; I should think they would work tremendously with a dip.... although the taste is very strong so you'd need to choose your dip quite carefully.

These are great crisps with a fantastic crunch. Perhaps not mad about the flavour.

Zweifel Snacketti Ketchup Fries Flavour

Another triumph from Swiss crisp giant Zweifel. I find I sometimes like their Snacketti crispy snacks, and sometimes I don't so much. But these are really good.

This is another extruded potato snack, and has a smart square shape with a hole down the centre. You can just see all the way through. It's quite a lot like the very nice ketchup flavour Bulgarian snacks Kubetti I tried recently: only I think better.

And they have a  load of lovely dark red ketchup flavour yumminess all over them. I thought the red was a bit much when I opened the bag but it was, in fact, just right. Just right and fabulous. Delicious smell when you open the bag too.

The reluctant taste testers really enjoyed these. Techie tester was particularly impressed, and he's a big fan of tomato flavour crispy snacks. Two bowlsful were snacked down in no time at all which meant I didn't get very many. Probably just as well I can see it would be easy to nosh down the entire packet. It's always better for my diet when everyone likes the crisp offering.

Imagine the best ever sausage inna bun you ever had, all sloshed over with the best ketchup. Only with a great crunch. Imagine a bag of Snacketti Ketchup Fries.

Zweifel Snacketti Hearts Lovely Salted

What? I kid you not. This crispy snack flavour is called "lovely salted". I checked that the snack isn't called Hearts Lovely, and the flavour salted. But no.

So here we have a rather charming extruded potato snack (potato starch and potato flour) fashioned into a lattice and then folded into a hollow heart shape. The flavour is made from salt, onion, natural flavours (which natural flavours we wonder yet again?) and seasoning (which contains sugar and flavour enhancers). A bit of a mystery then.

However, it is a very nice slightly salty crunchy snack. For British readers, they're a little like Quavers in texture but you can't burst the bubbles on your tongue. And I can't quite work out what the lattice reminds me of.

I probably would not have tried this crispy snack if I hadn't been on the lookout for interesting Swiss crisps. And then I would have missed a tasty treat. I'm not crazy about the masses of people on the packet all waving their arms in the air. Is this a snack to be eaten at a rave I ask myself? Reserved for people at festivals? Who can say. But it looks as though Snacketti is Zweifel's brand they aim at younger snackers and I guess the packaging is designed with this in mind.

What I can say is that I enjoyed this little heart-shaped snack and would buy it again. Perhaps not a product for your posh cocktail parties, but while watching NCIS or Alerte Cobra on the screen of your choice? Absolutely.
