Belin Rolls Goût Crème & Oignon

Well now, here’s interesting. This is a French version of a crispy snack we have previously bought in North London, but made in Bulgaria or Greece. It appears to be identical, and indeed with a very similar name to the fantastic 7days Bake Rolls we enjoyed so much back in 2015. New!

Perhaps Mondelez, owner of Belin, has snapped up 7days and decided to launch the product under a well known French brand.

The Chef and I rather liked the cream and onion flavour. Very French. Belin are also making this tasty snack in Original (presumably salt), bacon, pizza, and garlic and Italian cheese. I hope to discover one of these next time we are in France.

I suppose these are just thin slices of crisply baked bread with flavour chucked on top but they do taste pretty good. The Chef has enjoyed them too. With butter and without. Nice.

Lu Tuc Goût Crème-Oignon

 

Snatched enthusiastically from the shelf of a large Co-op in Switzerland and eaten greedily almost in one sitting, this is a terrific crispy snack if you can find it. 

Ordinary everyday Tuc is a perfectly pleasant slightly crumbly salty biscuitty snack. Sour cream and onion flavour Tuc takes you to a whole new level of flavour and yumminess. Very nice indeed.

The biscuits are, as usual, oblong with cut off corners. See if you can stop yourself eating a whole packet at once… Go on… 

No idea at all where these are manufactured. Mondelez operate all over the place, so who knows.

Really delicious.

TUC Mini Snackies Cream & Onion

These incredibly tasty little biscuits have a madly complex pedigree and it's not at all easy to work out who had them made. At bottom, it's a company called Mondelez Interntional. But Mondelez has subsidiaries all over the place from Spain to Finland. And I think I bought them in France. However, they seem to be made in Hungary.

Very very tasty little biscuits. A little like the nicest cheese & onion flavour, a little bit cream cheesy. And a great crunch. Just extremely good.

Tall Elegant taste tester and I enjoyed these a lot, the Chef finished the packet with great gusto (his own words), and I think the all the taste testers liked them. No dissenters.

Original Ritz Crackers

When I was little my Granny & Grandpa used to have Ritz Crackers at about 6 o'clock each evening with a very small whisky and soda. By today's standards they were extremely abstemious and somehow this evening ceremony seemed very special. A daily treat.

This is Winifred (sometimes known as Goff) and Hugh (always called Tommy) in the 1950s. Actually it might be my parents' wedding.

Anyway, here we have the basic Ritz biscuit. It seems to taste exactly the same as ever it did. I wonder if the recipe is the same? Quite salty. But quite sweet at the same time. A gentle flavour; not exciting.

Oven baked not fried it says on the box. Maybe. But is it probable that this little biscuit was ever fried? That doesn't seem terribly likely does it? And not terribly impressed that these little biscuits are made with palm oil. But perhaps they always were.

Nice to try for a change. But I think they'd be tastier with cream cheese and something or maybe some pâté.
